NEWS & UPDATEs
We are halfway into 2019 edition of the Portland Short Track Series.
This Sunday (June 30), you will find us on the mountain for the 10th edition of the Six Hours of Mt Hood, and the next day (Monday July 1) we are taking a break from Short Track, but we will be back on Monday July 8 and we invite you and your friends to come join us on the infield of Portland International Raceway for another 4 weeks of summer bike race bliss!
Below are the latest updates, ahead of the next upcoming races in the series. Or click here for more detailed info about the series, including race schedule, categories, race course, etc.
Tue 06/25 - What a fun night to wrap up the first half of the series! Thanks to everyone who came out yesterday for our 4th night of racing and a special shout to all the new racers, who keep finding their was to Short Track and keep coming back for more. And we hope you all liked the wild course design with the new dirt feature, the two passages through the motocross track, and the technical off-camber sections under the trees … it’s just a flavor of what’s yet to come after the break… we want to keep things fresh and interesting!
Our series photographer Victor Duong posted a bunch of great shots from yesterday on flickr.
There is no Short Track next Monday, but we hope to see you all this Sunday on the mountain at the Six Hours of Mt Hood, which promises to be another great edition! We have already a record 215 racers pre-registered (full start list here) and the weather forecast calls for prefect racing conditions (sunny with highs in the upper 60s).
Sun 06/23 - Summer is here and we're ready to dial up the fun and racing level to 11!
The weather forecast for tomorrow calls for near-perfect racing conditions (clear skies, temps in the low to mid 70s and as usual, a mild breeze picking up around late afternoon). To celebrate the advent of summer and to wrap up the first half of the series, the great folks of Nossa Familia Coffee plan to come out tomorrow to sample free iced coffee and lattes. So, all the ingredients will be at hand for a fun night of racing and watching all the race action with a refreshing beverage in hand!
Also, make sure to check the current series standings to figure out who the top contenders are across all 20 race categories and - if you raced last week or are a series pass holder - find out if you are among the more than 40 winners in our weekly raffle!
Finally, a reminder that like every week, we will host…
FREE kids races - presented by Lumberyard - at 6pm in the area under the trees. Check the Kids Short Track page for all the details and to find the results of the previous three races, as well as the winners of our weekly kids raffle (a voucher for two free bike rentals and a pizza at the Lumberyard);
FREE short track skills clinics (from 5 to 6pm), for both novice and intermediate women and men racers; and
FREE Dave's Killer Bread PB&J sandwiches at our food station.
One more race before we take a mid-series break to have fun on the mountain at the Six Hours of Mt Hood, which you definitely don’t want to miss out on… let’s make it another fun one!
- 1 non-racing volunteer to help out at the track crossing from 5:00pm until 8:00pm (compensation: $30)
- 1 volunteer to help out as a course marshal during the last 2 races (from 7:00 to 8:00pm) and help with clean up (8:10-8:40pm) - in exchange for a free race entry
If you are available and interested in helping out with either task, just shoot us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org. Thanks!
