NEWS & UPDATEs

Wed 08/01 - Just in: another huge batch of awesome shots from last Monday's final night of racing, the Ultra Short Track Team Relay race, and our series podiums, courtesy of Victor Duong and Broken and Coastal. Enjoy!

Tue 07/31 - And that's a wrap! Thanks everyone who came out last night to race, cheer, volunteer, and celebrate the end of another great season of Short Track. Congratulations to all series podium finishers and high-five to all the teams who raced in the Ultra Short Track Team relay. That was such a blast!

Les Volontaires - Portland Racing's very own volunteer team, ready to rock the team relay. A major shout to all our wonderful volunteers, the OBRA crew, and everyone who helped out to make the magic happen every week!

Sun 07/29 - We are getting all geared up for tomorrow's Series Grand Finale and we promise to make it another good one you don't want to miss out on!

We just posted a list of all the racers who are still in contention of the series top-3 podium in each category and it looks like we have quite a few categories where it will all be coming down the line tomorrow. The cherry on the pie will certainly be the Elite Men race, where powerhouse short track racers Shannon Skerritt (Trek Cyclocross Collective), Andrew Coe (PDX TI), and Mitch Trux (PDX TI) are going neck-to-neck for the top 3 spots on the series podium. May the odds be ever in their favor!

Fri 07/26 - Everything is falling together for next Monday's Series Grand Finale and we hope you are ready as well for one last hurrah!

A couple updates, ahead of all the fun:

  • Check out the 22 teams who have signed up to contest for fame and glory - and a ton of fun! - in Monday's Ultra Short Track Team Relay Race! We still have 4 slots left, so if you still like to round up some friends and submit another relay team, please give us a yell asap.
  • Also, if you raced last Monday or are a series pass holder, make sure to check if you are among the final batch of winners in our weekly raffle!
  • The call-up list for our final night of racing has been posted, featuring the top-5 series contenders in each category and all our series pass holders.
  • Results of last Monday's kids races have been posted. Note that this Monday - right after we finish our last set of free kids races of the series - all kids will get treated to ice-cooled lemonade and our series sponsor Islabikes will raffle off a kids bike among all kids racers in attendance!
  • Bring out your team mates and get your free team shot taken by our series photographer Victor Duong! The Short Track team shots have become quite the tradition (below are some of our favorites from the last couple years) and we'd love you and your team mates be in the picture on Monday.
Note: Victor will be available for team shots at the finish area on the MX track (under the finish gate) right before and right after the relay race.

Wed 07/25 - Check out the fresh batch of amazing race action shots Victor Duong just added to this week's Flickr album. Way to capture the great summer vibe of the last weeks and show folks how much fun racing in 90F degree weather can be!

Tue 07/24 - Another fun night of short track racing yesterday, featuring 255 racers (plus another 30 kiddie racers), a course that rocked, refreshing post-race lemonade, and a course-side sprinkler that more than delivered!

We hope you all had fun and are ready for one more night of Short Track fun at next Monday's 2018 Series Grand Finale & Ultra Short Track Team Relay Race. We are going to make it another good one and it will be the one night of the series you don't want to miss out on!

Sun 07/22 - It looks like we've entered the dog days of summer but, as the 280 racers who were out there last week can testify, you shouldn't let that keep you from coming out and partake in the fun this Monday at our second-to-last night of Short Track racing!

Like last week, we will start and finish under the trees and our set-up crew will design a flowy course that maximizes both the shade and the fun. We might even throw in an optional "sprinkler alley" out on the grass field (at the NE side of the course) for those who love getting some "aquatic relief" while racing.

In addition, our food station will be stacked with ice-cooled water AND will serve FREE LEMONADE to all racers! And the PIR concession stand will be open and offer HUB beer and other cold beverages.

UPDATE: given the hot temps in the forecast and the fact that many of our racers will be recovering from some epic riding this past weekend (by the way, congrats to all Short Track racers who finished the High Cascade 100 yesterday!), we decided to take a pass on the Holeshot Competition we had scheduled for tomorrow.  If you are one of those fast cats who was looking forward to starting your race tomorrow with a harrowing sprint, we are sorry to let you down. However, all the prizes we had reserved for the Holeshot winners and runner-ups in each category (including a bunch of classic short track tees) will be added to the final installment of our weekly raffle tomorrow. Which basically means that if you come race tomorrow, you will double your chances of being among our last batch of weekly raffle winners!

Tue 07/17 - Thanks to everyone who came out tonight to race or spectate. It was a hot one, but that didn't make it a less fun one! Thanks to James Ceccoruli, Ron Strasser, and the rest of our set-up crew for toiling in the sun all afternoon and serving up another killer course. Also a special shout to all the #originals who came out to celebrate 14 years of short track fun. Let's keep at it!

Thu 07/12 - After 14 seasons of Short Track, it's time for a "roll call" of all folks who raced the series over the years and haven't been out there for a while. So here is a call to all retired or semi-retired Portland Short Track racers to dust off their bikes and come out this Monday (7/16) to the infield of PIR and join us for our inaugural "Getting the Band Back Together" Night!

Screen+Shot+2018-06-14+at+10.37.43+AM.png

We'll bring back the "good ol' times", which, come to think about it, actually never really went away... Short Track is still the same old song:  kids of all ages having a blast racing bikes in circles for 25 minutes on a rad course; then, catch your breath, chill, laugh, and get ready to do it all over again the following week!

So here is the deal:

Alumni STXC racers who haven't raced short track in the last 3 seasons (2016 through 2018) will enjoy a $10 discount!

Also, on Monday at 6:00pm (right before the start of the Cat 1 Kids race), we'll host a FREE and all-for-fun "Originals Hot Lap", for any "old timers" who raced Short Track during the first 6 seasons (2005-2010). Participating racers will get released in order of seniority (starting with the "Class of 2005") and are encouraged to sport their vintage race plates and any old-timey bike race outfits that would be fitting for the occasion (assuming they still pass the smell test...).

To top it off we'll raffle off 5 4-packs of HUB Beer, 5 packs of Nossa Familia Coffee, and 5 Short Track tees among all "relapsing" STXC racers who come out of hibernation and race this Monday. Spread the word!

Wed 07/11 - And... the winners are in! Check out the laureates of our "Summer Casusal" Race Outfit Contest
Plus, more shots from Monday's races, captured by Nita Galambos.

Tue 07/10 - Another fun night to kick off the second half of the series! Thanks to everyone who came out properly dressed up (or - rather - dressed down) for the occasion. Victor Duong already posted a first batch of pictures of yesterday's Summer Casual Race Outfit Contest Night. More to come later this week...
Results of yesterday's adult & junior races are posted on OBRA. Kids results will be posted some time tomorrow.

Mon 07/09 - Here is the call-up list for tonight's STXC race # 5, featuring the top-5 series contenders in each category and the 224 racers who purchased a 2018 Series Pass. Call-ups will start 15' before the start of each race heat. Also, if you raced 2 weeks ago or are a series pass holder, make sure to check if you are among this week's lucky winners in our weekly raffle!

Wed 07/08 - After enjoying a mid-series break, we're getting back in the groove this Monday with our annual "Summer Casual" Race Outfit Contest, brought to you by Portland Design Works

Leave the spandex at home and come race in your best "summer casual" attire. To get an idea of what we're talking about and get some inspiration for Monday, check out the photos of last year and the winners of the year before.

To make the Short Track summer party complete, our presenting sponsor Hopworks Urban Brewery will be on site serving free samples of their favorite summer ales, and longtime series sponsor Nossa Familia Coffee will bring out their coffee cargo bike to serve FREE iced coffee and iced mochas. So bring your friends, bring your families, and let's kick off the second half of the Portland Short Track Series with a real summer party on the infield of PIR!

The three most hilarious outfits in each race heat - plus the best two Junior racers - will win some very cool Portland Design Works prizes (see below). So, get the creative juices flowing and think beyond just cut-off jeans and t-shirts.... anything goes, as long as it doesn't weird out any of the kiddie racers!

Portland Design Works "Summer Casual" Contest Prize List:

Prize winners will be chosen from race photos taken by Victor Duong (and various other photographers) and listed on our web site on Wed 7/11.

Wed 06/20 - Summer is here and we're ready to dial up the fun level to 11! This coming Monday (June 25), we will be hosting our annual Short Track Wheelie Night, brought to you by Breadwinner Cycles!

The plan is simple: this Monday's course will feature a designated "Breadwinner Wheelie Zone" (located in the area under the trees, after you exit the motocross course) where riders are encouraged to show off their best "short track wheelie" and get the chance of winning some cool Breadwinner prizes!

After your race, just go to the Wheelie Zone to see if your attempt made the honor roll and and stay around to cheer on the wheelie-ing racers in the next race heats.

Like last year, our series photographer Victor Duong will be on hand to capture the best wheelies.

Tue 06/19 - Another fun night of Short Track racing under sunny skies and on a super-fast course that seriously rocked!  A  heartfelt thanks to all newbie Short Track racers who came out to give the series a shot. We are already looking forward to seeing you all back next week. We'll keep it on!

Results of adult and junior races are up on OBRA and our series photographer Victor Duong posted a first batch of action shots on Flickr. More to come later!
