"Summer Casual" Race Outfit Contest 2017
Thanks to all riders who came out last Monday and dressed down (or up) for our Summer Casual Race Outfit Contest!
Make sure to check out Victor Duong's gallery with all the great outfits that racers were flaunting on and around the course!
Below are the shots of the 3 winners, the 3 runner-ups and the 5 special mentions, who will go home with some very cool prizes, generously donated by our friends at Portland Design Works.
Thanks everyone for playing! And remember: every Monday is casual Monday at PDXShortTrack!
All prizes must be picked up in person this Monday (7/17) at the info desk (next to registration).
These three folks who went beyond the call of duty will receive a Portland Design Works a City/Danger USB Light Set, a Portland Short Track trucker hat, and a loaf of Dave's Killer Bread!
WINNER # 1 - MAGGIE CREVISTON
Now this is what we call ultra-casual... from the denim shortalls, to the vintage 80s-style "blinds" shades, to the ubiquitous Big Gulp race hydration set-up, hard to match all that! Oh and what about that double-notched leather belt with matching fanny pouch? This gal knows how to accessorize!
WINNER # 2 - SETH PATLA
OK, this guy has made the Summer Casual Race Outfit Contest his #1 personal achievement goal for a couple years running now, so we knew he would be up to something, but he sure impressed us by showing up disguised as a kid out of an 80s movie (backpack, princess helmet, tennis socks and whatnot) on a beater Huffy bike four sizes too small (and stuck in one gear, so technically a singlespeed) and then managed to finish his race on said bike. Nice job, Seth. See you back next year!
WINNER # 3 - ANNICK CHALIER
Hats off for this fine racer who showed up for her very first Short Track race, got the memo about our Summer Casual Night, and totally hit it out of the ballpark in the Casual Super Hero Category. Complementary smile and colorful ink for added effect!
These three racers made a great impression and win a Portland Design Works Ninja Pump with CO2 3-pack and a loaf of Dave's Killer Bread!
RUNNER-UP # 1 - RACHELLE LAZENBY
Something about pin-stripe summer dresses, casually untied shoes and colors that match your bike tires.
RUNNER-UP # 2 - DAVE KOSANKE
Castelli, Assos & Rapha: take note. Vintage carwash-style short track skinsuit FTW!
RUNNER-UP # 3 - DAVID LUOMA
As usual, we saw a ton of Hawaii-inspired outfits on Monday, but David "Aloha" Luoma totally nailed it. Again, the best way to set yourself apart from the competition: "accessorize, accessorize, accessorize..."
These five racers win a Portland Design Works Owl Cage and a loaf of Dave's Killer Bread!
SPECIAL MENTION # 1 - CARLEY LEINS
Nothing says "PDX hipster casual" like a flanel plaid shirt on a summer day. Add bonus style points for the denim shortalls. Word of advice: next year, ditch the lycra bibs and go full Maggie Creviston.
SPECIAL MENTION # 2 - BRENDAN QUINLAN
Another Cat 2 60+ Men racer who is a recurring fixture at our Summer Casual race nights. This year, Brendan chose to channel his innner "retired rock star in pajamas". The wig and on-camera antics obviously makes it all complete. Rock on, Bro'!
SPECIAL MENTION # 3 - FRED MILLS
Hey, a pink tie and matching school boy outfit!
That sure counts as casual in our book.
BONUS SPECIAL MENTION - BRUCE IRWIN
The dude abides. And races a fat bike on Monday nights. The rest of the week, he is busy bowling.
BONUS SPECIAL MENTION - JEREMY HARGROVES
Sometimes, less is more. Especially if you sport an impressive display of casual body artwork. Extra style points for tall socks that match the bike.
