2017 SHORT TRACK NEWS & UPDATES
08/02 -Victor Duong's final batch of photos are in! Thanks so much, Victor, for capturing and sharing - each week - all the bike race action and the unique vibe we have going at Short Track in such beautiful shots! Photos or it didn't happen.... well, thanks to you, it clearly did all happen!
08/02 - Team Camas Bike and Sport not only won this year's Series Team Competition, but they also capped it with a fantastic display of team camaraderie. At our Series Grand Finale, they fielded three 10-person teams in the relay race, each team riding in honor of a team mate or family member they had lost to cancer during the past year. Nice work and a very cool gesture, Ed Fischer and team! (photo by Victor Duong)
Christopher San Augustin already posted some real cool shots on the Broken & Coastal blog and more photos (by Victor Duong) are forthcoming. Thanks everyone for coming out and making it another fun and memorable night!
Also a MAJOR SHOUT to the many folks who helped make the series happen: our relentless volunteers, the OBRA officials crew, the staff at PIR, our first aid providers, our series photographer Victor Duong (and all the other folks who came out to shoot!), our series title sponsor HOPWORKS URBAN BREWERY, all our other loyal series sponsors (ALL of them local companies with a big heart for cycling and bike racing, so please support them with your business!), and - last but not least - YOU, the racers and teams who came out each week to race and contribute to the awesome circus we call Short Track! Thanks so much and hope to see you all back in November at Kruger's Farm... cross is coming!
07/31 - The 2017 Ultra Short Track Team Relay is getting underway! (photo by Christopher San Agustin).
07/30 - We are about to wrap up the 2017 Portland Short Track Series - after 8 weeks of some very fun and exciting races! - and like in years past, we plan to go out with a bang! We hope you will be able to join us tomorrow (Mon 7/31) for our Short Track Grand Finale & Ultra Short Rack Team Relay Race.
This year, we have a record 28 teams signed up for the Ultra Team Relay, including an all-junior team, a random team of crazies who plan to race on a shared 80's Huffy beater bike, and three Camas Bike and Sports teams, who are racing in honor of a team mate and two family members of team mates who passed away this last year, after battling cancer. Please cheer them on when you see them out there and be prepared to witness the thrill, camaraderie, and sheer fun that defines the Portland Short Track Series!
07/24 - Hats off to 14-year old Jacob Smith (PDXDevo Junior Cycling), who finished 3rd in Monday's Cat 1 Men U45 race!
07/25 - Another great night yesterday, with some close-fought battles for Holeshot fame and a course that felt like something completely new... and fun! A special shout to Ron Strasser for every week coming up with a new twist on how to send riders over the piles of dirt and barkdust on the outfield and for building yesterday's awesome sand trap!
07/24 - Tonight - with the support of longtime short track series sponsor Cyclepath - we are staging our annual Pedal-to-the-Metal Holeshot Night, where racers in each category will get a chance to reach for fame and glory within the first minute of their race, by beating their competitors to the line at the "Cyclepath Holeshot".
The Holeshot will be located about 250 yards down the start shoot, where the course dives into the trees (pro-tip: pre-ride the course before your race to find out the exact location of the holeshot).
The Holeshot winner in each category will receive a $15 Cyclepath gift certificate, a Short Track pint glass, and bragging rights that won't expire until next year's Short Track Series!
So, join us tonight and show us what you got in terms of raw start line explosiveness, anaerobic horse power, and sheer determination to become this year's Monday Night Short Track Holeshot Champ!
07/18 - Another fun night and a challenging course that saw some tough battles for short track fame and glory!
Check out all the cool pics our series phtographer Victor Duong shot at the Breadwinner Wheelie Zone and elsewhere around the course. Thanks everyone for racing and thanks to the folks at Breadwinner for the fun new series feature and all the great prizes!
07/17 - Cat 2 Men U40 racer Garrett Madras (Cyclepath Racing), finishing his race in style and totally in the spirit of our inaugural Breadwinner Wheelie Night. (photo by Victor Duong).
Also, check out the new and updated Team Competition Series Standings. We moved to the same, simplified team standings system that has been used at the Blind Date Series. Teams score points for their best finish in each category each night and best team rider in each category earns the same # of points as in the individual series standings (i.e. 100 for 1st place, 80 for 2nd, 60 for 3rd, etc). Currently, Cyclepath Racing is leading the pack with Camas Bike and Sport and Rebound/ Tireless Velo in hot pursuit.
07/17 - Tonight, we continue putting the FUN in Short Track racing with our all-new Short Track Wheelie Night, brought to you by Breadwinner Cycles! The plan is simple: today's course will feature a designated "Breadwinner Wheelie Zone" (located in the area under the trees, after you exit the motocross course) where riders are encouraged to perform their best wheelie, with the chance of getting the stamp of approval of the Breadwinner Wheelie Jury and win prizes! After your race, just go to the Wheelie Zone to see if your attempt made the honor roll and and stay around to cheer on the wheelie-ing racers in the next race heats.
07/11 -Yay, another great "Summer Casual" Short Track Night" on the books! Racers yesterday got treated to some gorgeous summer race weather, another super-rad course, free iced coffeeand mocchas generously provided by Nossa Familia Coffee, and samples of various organic ale, courtesy of our title sponsor Hopworks Urban Brewery.
Thanks to everyone who came out to kick off the second half of the 20176 series e and a special shout to all of you who dressed down for the occasion!
